Part 2
(If you've experienced them...then yes, of course, they're real. I know I have. And, I've thought a lot about WHY this seems to happen)
This is the part I never hear anyone talking about as to why this happens:
Think of the runners high you felt after every run during training-even the awful ones. It's euphoric, for lack of better word.
Might seem dramatic, but it's a good feeling, right?
So you go from experiencing that feeling 4, 5, 6 times a week for months on after your race, even if it went shitty, there's still a level of cloud 9. But, once the dust settles and you're being a smart runner and rest...you no longer experience that feeling. Not 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 6, times a week. Not at all. It's gone. Your daily drug is gone. And, you weren't even weened off of it.
Just cold turkey.
You go from being on a high every single day to never.
It's like going from a peak to a valley in a matter of hours.
Expected. Normal. Not fun, but normal.
So, it's not just psychological, but also physiological.
Body AND mind.
What can you do about it?
For me, getting outside daily helps (I take my dog, Leila, for a long walk every day, so I continue to do that); I watch movies, do crafts, read books, hang out with people who make me laugh, journal, go for a bike ride, strength train, learn something new.
There plenty of other things that can make you feel good, aside from running.
I promise. Try them out.
