Recovery Day, The Holdovers &New Clients

Updated: Jan 31

There's a trope amongst runners that we all hate days off or recovery days. I think I used to? But, recently, I've really been enjoying them and finding myself really productive when I have no runs or lifts. My advice to you: if you're feeling antsy on a rest day or recovery day, whip out the ole: To Do List and get crackin. You'll thank yourself when you have less rest days and/or are too tired on your rest days to do anything.

I used today to write another brief, attend a Zoom meeting for my lawyer job, talk to two new coaching clients, watch #TheHoldovers, go for a long walk with Leila and watch Jeremy put my new desk together (thank you!). Another day of checking things off my to-do list felt really good. Keeping promises to myself feels good.

I'm not trying to paint a picture that I'm always on top of my sh*t; I'm not. That's why getting things done is actually noteworthy-or blog worthy.

The two new clients aren't really new, per se. One is a former client who realized she is better off with a coach than without (and I'm so glad to have her back). And, one is one of my marathon training friends from the past two summers. They each have different things they want to focus on-one on nutrition, one on getting stronger. And, I'm just really honored they chose me to help them out.

It's felt good to put feelers out again for new clients after over a year of keeping the doors closed to current clients only. I'm still working on some new projects and offers and hopefully by the time you're reading this, you can click around this website and see what they are!

Rapid fire thoughts: I watched "The Holdovers" tonight and liked it. It was a mix of "Dead Poet's Society" and "Good Will Hunting," but not quite as good as either. I give it 3 out of 4 stars. The acting all around was great. Movies about small schools in the middle of nowhere on the east coast always ring nostalgic for me. Ask me about college one day. Go 'Gate.

And, we're supposed to be getting a big winter storm this weekend which is making me overthink when I'm going to get my 10 mile run in.

Should I move it to Friday when it's just starting but will still be in the 30's--but the winds will be gale force? Should I move it to Saturday when it might still be snowing & even colder, but maybe the path will be salted and cleared? Do I wait until Sunday when it's supposed to be VERY cold (like in the teens), but the snow might be cleared and the winds less insane? Do I take the conservative route and knock out 10 painful miles on the treadmill? I updated my iPad (well, Jeremy did) so I can binge watch tv if I decide to hit the treadmill. I haven't run more than 4 miles on the treadmill in well over a decade. So...stay tuned.

Less than a month til the #F3HalfMarathon. So, I'm not going to skip my long run this week. Anyone else running it?

My watch just buzzed to tell me my recovery time has sped up due to my restful day. I haven't had that alert in MONTHS! If you read yesterday's post, you'll see why this is extra exciting.
